Maika recieves Tū Kahika Scholarship

Whakamihi ki a Maika Rhind!

InZone’s 7th Former, Maika, is the recipient of the Tū Kahika Scholarship, a pathway programme for Māori Medical Students at Otago University where he is headed next year! A fantastic end to Maika’s 5 year journey with InZone and Auckland Boys Grammar where he served as a Prefect this year.

This is a two-semester Health Sciences programme that prepares Māori students academically for their first year of tertiary study and a future career in Māori Health.

Tū Kahika students received guaranteed accommodation in a Residential College and financial assistance towards tuition fees and accommodation costs.

This follows Maika being awarded the REACH Scholarship earlier in the year from the University of Otago which was an all expenses paid 3-day stay on campus that luckily took place prior to re-entering lockdown.
Maika says “I was shown around the campus and all the many resources this amazing University has to offer. Being able to fully see what their Health Sciences department had to offer and the different careers leading from this such as Dentistry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Surgery and General Practitioner was really inspiring”.
We can’t wait to see which career you choose Maika! Karawhiua
