Our former CEO Stewart White left InZone in mid October.  The Board of Trustees are looking to make an appointment in 2019.

When did you start working for InZone:

What is your role here:
Head of Boarding

Describe your job in a couple of sentences:
My role is to providing leadership around day to day operations in both the boys and girls kāinga.  It is also to ensure that our tamariki and my colleagues are able to function to the best of their ability.

Where are you from:
Ngati Porou te iwi. Born in Gisbourne, went to primary school in Kawerau and Te Awamutu and I for secondary school I attended Tauranga Boys’ College.

Tell us something about yourself:
I currently living out at Paparimu with my wife (Mere) and our 3 children (Niwa, Nikau & Aroha).

I enjoy sport and am a supporter of the All Blacks, Hurricanes in Super Rugby,  Queensland in State Of Origin and the Warriors.
My personal sporting highlight was that I was a member of NZ Mens Dragonboat Team in 1995 (World Cup China).  I also enjoy cooking.

My favourite quotes are: “Work Hard – Play Hard!” and “Do The Mahi, Get The Treats!”

What have you done previously:
I attended Auckland College of Education in Epsom and started teaching when I was 20.  I taught Health & Physical Education and Maths.  Prior to joining InZone I was the Deputy Principal at Alfriston College.

What do you enjoy most about working for InZone:
The opportunity to provide leadership, support and encouragement for our tamariki and my colleagues to be the best people that they can be!

When did you start working for InZone:
I began working for InZone in 2011 as a mentor but left in 2012.  I then returned in January 2018.

What is your role here:
The newly appointed Academic Director.

Describe your job in a couple of sentences:
I ensuring that our students are academically supported.  I oversee all facets of the academic program including academic monitoring and the coordination of the tutoring program.  I also work closely with our partner schools, for both academic (School Form Deans and Head of Departments) and pastoral (Careers & Guidance) matters to ensure consistency in support from both school and kāinga.  In addition i make sure our students are supported in their career planning by helping them to identify courses of study, scholarships or pathways to employment.

Where are you from:
He waewae nō Ngāti Raukawa ki Waikato, he waewae nō Ngāti Ranginui. I am a descendant of the tribes of Raukawa and Ranginui.

Tell us something about yourself:  
I have a relationship with Jesus and I am happily married.  I enjoy spending time in the word, being with my wife and continuing to be physically active.

What have you done previously:
I was teaching business studies and te reo Māori at Te kura Māori o Ngā Tapuwae in Mangere.

Seeing students of our own achieve their potential.
