4 InZone kōhine represented Epsom Girls Grammar at the 2021 Maadi Cup Tournament. Well done Mya, Aroha, Brooke and Natasha on all your mahi ahead of the competition.

Aroha says of the 14 Day event –

“For me, this was one of the best sporting tournaments I have been to! The atmosphere was unreal and the competition was strong. Having no North island championships (DUE TO COVID) we went straight into MAADI not knowing much about the competition even from within Auckland. There were 122 schools with over 2,000 competitors so it was pretty hectic. It was nice because our accommodation catered well for us to have a lot of rest and recovery while getting away from all the craziness at the lake. Racing against the South Island schools gave me a bigger understanding of the type of competition this event brings. Everyone was competitive on the water but off the water, everyone was really friendly. The last day was my favourite because the biggest races were on, before that you would get into a big moshpit for a clothes swap. This Is where you trade some of your rowing gears with other schools. The big U18 8 races at the end of the day was an awesome atmosphere to be a part of, most of the competitors getting in the water cheering on their fellow teammates with water going everywhere and people screaming, it was pretty cool. The competition was so tough and a special mention to Rangi Ruru Girls School down from Christchurch who came away as Top Secondary school winning a total of 19 medals!!”
