What We Do
The InZone Education Foundation was created to provide Māori and Pacific Island secondary school students with the opportunity to access some of New Zealand’s highest performing state/integrated schools, something they would otherwise not have been able to do without living in the right school zone.  Many of New Zealand’s best performing state secondary schools are positioned in some of the most unaffordable areas.  This is no coincidence. As zoning restrictions tightened, the demand for housing in these areas escalated.  Māori and Pacific Island families appear to be the most affected by these changes.  Yet it is Māori and Pacific Island students that too often fall into the lowest achieving academic ranks for school leavers.

Our Te Kainga Wananga

InZone Te Kāinga Wānanga and Te Kāinga Huarahi are designed to provide a comprehensive whakapapa environment familiar to Māori and Pacific Island students, in an effort to maximize the learning experience of InZone students.

Operationally the InZone Education Foundation works with the school and adopts, where appropriate, the protocols of their existing hostel.  For example, the InZone Boys Te Kāinga Wānanga ‘rule book’ has been designed to enhance the existing kaupapa (rules and regulations) of Auckland Grammar’s own Tibbs House boarding establishment.

The Te Kāinga Wānanga provides:
  • Support for students’ academic and educational aspirations, including study programs
  • Tutoring if required
  • Careers advice and goal setting
  • Mentorship from Grammar Old Boys of Māori and Pacific Island descent
  • Sports, cultural, and life skills programs
  • Inspirational visiting speakers•Parental involvement
  • A whanau-type living environment•Extra opportunities for social, spiritual and personal development
  • Inter-denominational Christian pastoral care
  • Quality care, supervision and a safe and secure environment

Student Testimonials

Our first intake of boys graduated in 2015 and our second intake in 2016 and are now pursuing new opportunities and challenges.

These boys walked with us every step of the way for five years. It was challenging but they have strived to reach the high standards we asked of them, and in doing so, we are proud of them.

We wish them all the best with the next chapter of their lives, and will continue to support them on their chosen paths in life. Kia Ora Mai.

The boys who graduated in 2015 wrote moving and inspirational testimonials about their time with InZone. To read them click here.

InZone was developed based on a belief that our leaders of tomorrow grow from receiving a quality education today.
